    Free Rotate Word Art (2003)

No matter what I do, the "free rotate" option in "Draw" is greyed out! Help, please.

    Thanks

    Strange,

What do you see in Format > Word Art > Size > Rotation - can you type in a number to rotate your word art?
What happens if you try to rotate the Word Art in this document - it certainly is rotatable for me!

Never went that route - now I know. Still would like to know why in the drawing toolbar, Draw, Rotate, "free rotate" is not available. But at least I can rotate my text now - so a big thank you to you!!!

Free Rotate is definitely available to me (Word 2003 SP2), and Word Art seems to have the green rotation circle enabled as soon as I create it anyway.

Okay - really, really weird - I have called 10 different people in 10 different locations (if it matters, we're all connected to the same server) and NONE of them get the green rotate thingy when they create a word art. If we click on Draw, Wrap Text (or whatever it says) and choose "bring in front) (something like that) the green circle appears and stays.

    What the

    )##*)#$*$%* IS UP WITH THIS????

Ah, now I understand. You have a default setting that inserts graphics "In line with text". You cannot rotate this kind of graphic.

You can change this setting from Tools > Options > Edit

Re: Free Rotate Word Art (2003)

BTW, if you want to keep the default "inline with text" setting & still be able to rotate pictures:
    1. Go to Tools/Customize.../
    2. Choose Drawing, under categories.
    3. On the right side, scroll about 4/5ths the way down to disassemble picture.
    4. Drag this to your drawing toolbar.

Now, when you insert pictures inline, you can click on Disassemble picture, & it will make it floating & you can rotate it.
    Cheers,
