Reserved System Space (Win XP Pro SP2)

When running Diskeeper (v.8), I notice a huge amount of "reserved system space". What is this for and does Windows really need this much space for its own use?

    Thanks.

It is space reserved for the Master File Table (MFT). See How NTFS Reserves Space for its Master File Table (MFT) for more information.
