    10points - 12 points (Excel 2002)

I took over an Excel workbook from a colleague who had it formatted by default to 12 points.

I have made sure that in Tools/Options/General 10points is listed and have formatted the 5 sheets so they are 10 points.

However, when I copy data from a 10 point sheet and paste into my 10 point formatted page it arrives as 12 points and has to be reduced.

If I do a Paste Special/Values then it does go in as 10 points.

There is an underlying "12 points" default that I would like to reduce to 10 points. This is also shown by the fact that Insert/New Sheet brings it in as 12 points and any text box that is applied has 12 point text as default.

Would welcome suggestions as how to get the workbook to a "genuine" 10points.

    Re: 10points - 12 points (Excel 2002)

I think you'll find it's because 'General' only affects what will be created in future - if you now create a new spreadsheet (probably after exiting and reopening Excel) the sheets will be in 10 pt, then you can pull the sheets from the original into a new one and any new sheets created will be in 10pt.

I searched the help but could only find how to change the font on worksheets once created or how to change the default for future workbooks - I couldn't find any evidence of a way to change the default font for an existing workbook (and I don't actually remember seeing anything that said you could, with XL or Word, I'm afraid).

Having said that, once you've created your new sheet, it's easy enough to click in the 'select whole sheet' box (above '1' and to the left of 'A') and change the font then ...?

    How about:
    format - style -
    [Modify...]
    Font(tab)
    Size: 10
    [ok]

    Beryl

Thanks for trying but it was Steves post with the "Styles" suggestion that solved the problem.

Interesting - I never even thought about styles existing in Excel!
