    Default homepage

@ work, my homepage is set to the company website. however, the default page is completely useless - it actually decreases my productivity. i tried setting the page i wanted as my homepage in Tools -> Internet Options... but the next day it had changed back to the <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> default (i'm assuming because of the company network). is there any way to stop this? or will i have to change it every morning? <img src=/S/aflame.gif border=0 alt=aflame width=16 height=16>

    Re: Default homepage

Probably your company/IT department has a policy which restores the home page to the one they specify. Why not just have a Favorite which points to the page you want?

Personally I avoid home pages, and just use about:blank...

    Re: Default homepage

i could use a favorite icon i suppose... but i use the quick launch toolbar and click the ie icon once to get where i want to without any thought. i'd just like to avoid that extra step if i could <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> and even putting the favorites icon on my quick launch toolbar would end up being an extra step because i know i will forget to use it! <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

    Re: Default homepage

I was going to suggest that you create a desktop shortcut for Internet Explorer, and put in the Target field something like
    "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" <the webpage you want, e.g. http://www.microsoft.com>
    but it won't let you!

The following way works (I used the Windows Explorer desktop icon to create the shortcut from):

On the Desktop, create a shortcut from a program or icon which is NOT Internet Explorer

In the Properties -> Shortcut,<UL><LI>change the Target field to "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" "http://www.wopr.com" {Change target webpage to suit}<LI>change the Start In field to blank, or perhaps better "C:Program FilesInternet Explorer"<LI>change the Icon to one you like<LI>change the caption of the shortcut/icon on the desktop to whatever you fancy[/list]Try it!

There may be some other cosmetic changes needed, or you may wish to put it somewhere other than on the desktop, but this is left as an exercise for the reader, and YMMV, of course!

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary (often meaning: "it works for me, but 'who can tell?' for you"!)

    John

PS The European equivalent is, of course, YKMV => Your Kilometreage May Vary...!

    John,
Our company has the same policy settings but they don't seem to apply to Firefox or Opera so it doesn't really bother me! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
