    Tag discovery

    I was writing a message to someone in Scuttlebut and I put the word <!t>[truffles]<!/t> in the message...it appeared to be blank when the message was sent to the board.

    After some research I did this:

    <!t>[truff]<!/t>
    <!t>[truf]<!/t>
    <!t>[tru]<!/t>

    and of course <!t>[tr]<!/t>

    I then put in <!t>[trouble]<!/t>

    All became invisible. I note that Lex's parser is seeing the first two letter of the words and seeing it as the table row tag in HTML. So a word of warning if you are going to bracket something with square parenthesis ensure the word does not start with <big>tr</big> as it will become invisible...if not use curved parenthesis.

    Just thought you would like to know <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

    Re: Tag discovery

    For some unknown (to me at least) reason, the <!t>[tr]<!/t> tag allows for additional commands, like <!t>[tr align="center"]<!/t> which produces <tr align="center">.

    Anything between "<!t>[tr" and "]<!/t>" is considered to be part of the tag.

    To produce <!t>[trouble], simply use <!t>[t]<!/t>trouble] and so on, like <!t>[truffles] <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
    Cheers, Claude.

    Re: Tag discovery

    Thanks for the feedback Claude.

    I used this technique to highlight the issue in my previous message in this thread.

    My only concern (and I imagine that it is a very small one) is that this may rear its ugly head when new Lougers unaware of the issue may happen across it when using the Access board.

    I may have a field called <!t>[tracking]<!/t>, say and when they try to put it in a line of code it would go missing and confuse both the Admin/WMVP helper and themselves

    What should be

    [forms]![frmMyForm]!<!t>[tracking]<!/t>.[visible]

    would read

    [forms]![frmMyForm]!<tracking>.[visible]

    Anyway my <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> worth.

    Believe me, Loungers have fallen over this before. Once the factures heal you learn caution. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

    I have certainly learnt the problem and the fix...........ssooooo it then leads me onto this point. StuartR kindly mentioned in the Test area that this was a known issue, I have been on the boards for 3 or so years and was never aware of it until now.

    So on my wish list could someone add to the help file or a suitable area of their choosing a "Known Issue/Fix list" that new and experienced Loungers could use as reference so that we are aware of these little quirks? It may cut down on these "new discoveries" similar to the one from Rudi about rude words being censored by Lex, Admin/WMVP could then send the discoverer to that link to cut down on repetitive posts....just an idea or would that be too much <!t>[trouble]<!/t> <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>?

    Re: Tag discovery

    That is an interesting idea, Jerry. Maybe we should consider it. They aren't exactly "issues" and "fixes", more workarounds for possible pitfalls, but it wouldn't hurt to have something like that in help. The only thing is, do any Loungers actually read Help? If not, then we're just sening them there instead of to an existing thread on the workaround. <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

    Re: Tag discovery

    I always use Help.

    My idea was really to centralise the known workarounds to cut down on Admin/WMVP having to have saved searches or search the archive.

    Even a MOD or two will read the "Help" section <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Tag discovery

    FWIW, see also <!t>[TAG]<!/t> in the Tag Panel. There are also problems with other <!t>[ & ]<!/t> square bracket usages, such as cell formats in Excel (e.g. <!t>[red]<!/t>), so experienced Loungers may run their posts, especially VBA code, through a Word Macro such as this:

    Sub VBA2Lounge()
    With ActiveDocument.Find
    .ClearFormatting
    .Replacement.ClearFormatting
    .Forward = True
    .Wrap = wdFindStop
    .Format = False
    .MatchCase = False
    .MatchWholeWord = False
    .MatchWildcards = False
    .MatchAllWordForms = False
    .Execute FindText:="[", ReplaceWith:="

    Thanks for that...quite similar to what to a piece of code that Steve skdpr wrote... this is the type of info we need <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

    As an "ordinary poster" I use the "help section" quite often! An addition like the one Jerry mentioned would be "helpful"! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
