OpenOffice 2.0 Release Candidate 1 has been released. It is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. For Windows it is a 75MB download and though no date has been set for the final release, it will probably be around early-mid October at the earliest.
A quick note about release candidates. Quite often in the open-source community the developers issue release candidates of their software after the beta releases and before the final version is released. Release candidates are usually feature complete and developers encourage people to test it to help find any remaining issues before the final release.
