    Aliens Have Landed II

I was talking to strange old fellow the other day, I say strange because he kept on talking about alien civilisations and that he had proof. Much to my shock he told me he could prove it and from a bag he was carrying he pulled out a strange box, clicked a hidden button and in the shine of blinding green light a draw opened. Inside the box lay two rings one with letters and one with numbers. He said

"The secret of the whereabouts of the alien civilisation lies in these two rings, I have tried decyphering this code for many years and have never got close, do you know anybody that could do it for me?

So fellow Loungers can you work out the secret of the Alien Rings and tell me where you think they come from?

BTW Thre is no reason why Jezza Bear is in the picture, he holds no clues just wanted to show it was an original puzzle

Right no takers so far so Jezza Bear has agreed to a first clue. It appears the Aliens have watched Stargate The Movie!!!!

PS You may find this easier if you print the picture in the top thread and cut out the two circles and overlay them.

To be honest, I didn't make it myself. More a cultivated Google search....

    <big><big>WAY TO GO ROB</big></big>

You get a BIG [choccy bar], a packet of [Lemony Sherbert Travelling sweets] and a [magazine] of your choice.

Just as a matter of interest, marks out of 10 for difficulty as I dreamt this one up on the train and tidied it up at home and was just getting a bit worried.

    Oh BTW

    Re: Aliens Have Landed II

Difficult to allocate a mark for difficulty because I solved it. Obviously, someone who didn't solve it would give it a higher mark.
I'd give it a 9 for entertainment and interest value and of course, a 10 for the usual Jezza ingenuity.
Thanks for the prezzies - the choc was particularly tasty, and Private Eye was up to its usual standard.

Sooooo.... how's it done? - or should it be incumbent on the prize winner to give an explanation?

    And you can have 37 out of 10 for difficulty from me <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Aliens Have Landed II

    OK

The basic theory behind it is my usual shift code ( Say C and I shift 2 back it becomes A)

The smaller circle fits into the larger circle and you had to match coloured number to coloured letter...this is where the first trick came in as there were 4 possibilities.

Some people may be aware off my signature method of puzzling using shift codes. Once you matched up a set of colours you had to decide if I was to subtract the corresponding number from the letter or add it. It was a matter of patience to revolve around the 4 possibilities and then do your subtraction/addition.

If you are interested I have a cunning one up my sleeve using triangles but I have some work to do on it first.

Aha. I was looking at that last night and thought I'd covered all possibilites - or were you including subtraction AND addition?

The triangles up your sleeve - are these also part of the Jezzarettes Swing Combo?

    Re: Aliens Have Landed II

I thought this was pretty difficult, too. I worked at it a little last night, printed out the circles and all, but never got a single chevron locked in place (to use a Stargate reference).

I was going to guess that they must have come from Uranus, but I gave up pretty quickly on it.

    Good puzzle!
