    Write Conflict (2002)

I have frmAllParticipants (Record Source=tblMaster) with a command button that opens frmBooks (Record Source=qryBooks (tblMaster and tblClassCourse)). After making a change in frmBooks, closing the form, and then closing frmAllParticipants I get the "Write Conflict" notice. Not being terribly bright, I just presume this is because both forms have tblMaster in common. In "bashing" this around, I see where I can close frmAllParticipants before making changes in frmBooks and all is well.

Is there a work-around for this, or is tblMaster "locked" while frmAllParticipants is open?

Do you need tblMaster in qryBooks? Can't you just base frmBooks on tblClassCourse?
If not, you could save the record in frmAllParticipants before opening frmBooks using the lines

    If Me.Dirty Then
    RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
    End If

This should avoid the conflict. Closing frmAllParticipants will also work, as you note.

You might look at your default record locking settings under Tools Options Advanced. If you have edited records locked this could be locking your record on your main form.

Yes, I need the relationship to associate books with class and course.

    Carla:

Thanks, once again, for your input!
There is no record locking in this db. Hans' solution (as usual) was right on and simple.
(I still can't believe I forgot about that)
