    msimg32.dll (6.0)

I keep getting a message that msimg32.dll is missing from my library files. I have downloaded this file. I have reinstalled Outlook Express. I still get the same message. Any ideas? It also affects MSN Messenger, but nothing else, not even Outlook.

    John,

Have you downloaded and replaced the dll in three places where it should be?

    Windowssystem32
    Windowssystem32dll cache
Also should be in your "wfp" folder.

BTW, your link to Riverside B&B doesn't seem to be working.

    Re: msimg32.dll (6.0)

I didn't have a dll_cache folder in my system32 folder, so I made one and stuck a copy of the file in there. I tried renaming the folder dllcache and dll cache, and it still gave me the error message when I opened up Outlook Express. I also couldn't find a wfp folder and have no idea where to create one.

I fixed my hyperlink. Thanks. Now you can have a look at our home.

AFAIK msmig32.dll is the file that is used to migrate addresses in and out of Outlook Express. Does this cast any light on how your problem has arisen?

    John,
The dllcache folder ( one word ) should be in the Winsystem32 folder. When you add a file manually to that folder, it will NOT be available until you reboot.

Here is a link to a good explanation of the WFP folder ( Windows File Protection )
    WFP

I think I would next try to run the System File Checker.
Click start>run. then type sfc /scannow> OK ( space between the c and the / )
Have your Windows CD ready, it will ask you for it.
This will take some time and will scan your system for the proper system files and if missing, will replace them.

BTW, your link works fine and it looks like your home is indeed a fine and attractive place to visit.

    Re: msimg32.dll (6.0)

The problem started when my wife needed something to change a Word document into a PDF file. So I searched the internet and found something for free. Unlike the song, The Moon Belongs to Everyone, sometimes the best things in life aren't free. After this my Outlook Express has worked, but not without this continual warning. MSN Messenger has not worked at all. I have tried downloading both of them again.

I was looking for a quick fix, but rather than reinstall Windows 98, maybe it's time to get some new hardware and more up-to-date software.

    Re: msimg32.dll (6.0)

I changed the folder name, rebooted my computer and still nothing. I ran the System File Checker and it detected nothing. Rather than using your method, I used the one that is in the Microsoft System Information in the System Tools of the Accessories.

Glad you liked our home. If you are ever in St. Marys, drop in. We've been known to work on the barter system with a few people whose talents we know well.

    John,
I see by your post above that you are running Win98, not XP. In XP. I do not see any System File Checker option in the pulldown you mentioned. There IS File Signature Verification utility, but that is not the same as SFC.
I don't remember if 98 had SFC available or not but you can still try running it as I mentioned. It will either work or not with no harm done.

    Re: msimg32.dll (6.0)

Sorry for the delay, but I've been going to night school.

I'm sure I am running the File System Checker in Windows 98 because that is what it says it is. I tried what you suggested and it didn't work. I even went to the Microsoft site, which suggested the same thing, copied and pasted it, and it didn't work. So I am left with Outlook Express and its address book properties and Microsoft Messenger not working properly. It's not a big thing, but it is annyoying.

    John,

Besides a reinstall of 98 or better yet an upgrade to XP, I can't think of any other way out. Perhaps one of the other loungers can suggest something but my money would be on the upgrade. <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15>
