why does my heading 2 numbering start at 0 (WordXP SP3)

    Hello

I have a word document. My heading style numbering is setup correctly in Format >Styles and Formatting...the heading 2 style number is set to start at 1.

When I open up this document - the heading style 2 starts with a zero number.

Any idea why the numbering would start at 1. or have had any experience with this?

I had alook on microsofts MSDN but couldnt find anything related.

    many thanks diana

Have a look under Tools > Templates and Addins to verify whether the styles are set to update on Open. If this is the case then the numbering is being refreshed from the template every time you reopen the file - fix the template or turn off the automatic update.
