What happens to links to excel files during split? (2000)

Today I split my database for a beta test, and I noticed that links I had to excel files were just dropped - not left in the backend, and not replicated to the front end. Is this a known problem, or am I being too picky?

I just tested it - the links to Excel worksheets remained in the front end. They were not included in the backend, which seems reasonable.

I wonder why it didn't work for me. I completely understand them being dropped from the back end, but the links weren't moved anywhere, just gone to never-never land.
