    Can't Remove Deleted Folder from List (Office/Outlook 2003 SP2)

When I create a new email in MS Outlook 2003 sp2, if I click on the To: button, the first contacts folder is one that I deleted from the address book, and therefore I get an error saying such ... but I can't figure out where to go or how to go about deleting it. It does not show up in the Navigation Pane. I deleted it when I went to "email accounts" view/change address book, but there is still this one list I can't delete it from. Pressing the delete key while highlighted doesn't work either. It shows as being in a personal folder.

    Help, and TIA,

    --Jim

Thank-you for your input. To answer your question ... well, no ... up until the delete address book thing. I don't understand how I won't lose my stuff, I have several hundred contacts in various folders. The one I can't remove is a result of testing different things. I really don't want to have to start over again on collecting all that data that has taken me a couple years to build. Is there a registry key or something I can get into, or is it somewhere in 'Outlook-dom' that I have to find the rascally empty folder?

Unless I don't understand your issue, the steps in the later part of the thread I referred to will remove invalid addressbooks based on Folders which no longer exist. <post#=478374>post 478374</post#> in that thread is specifically for the situation where a deleted Contacts Folder causes an invalid addressbook error (and explains that you will not lose data, and the valid address books are easily reinstated). You can always ensure that you will not lose data by first backing up your PST(s), PAB(s), and any other Outlook data files, before you try the steps in that thread. (There may be a registry key you can edit or delete, but I don't mess with the registry if I can accomplish something through the application interface.)

Perhaps you can explain the problem in more detail, and outline exactly what steps you have undertaken so far to fix it?

Re: Can't Remove Deleted Folder from List (Office/Outlook 2003 SP2)

    Hi John,

It worked. I took your caveat too much to heart, and was concerned about losing data. I did not. However, I had to reboot my computer for the old files to go away. Perhaps I didn't wait long enough for Outlook to shut down before opening it back up again ... but either way, it accomplished what I needed. I then just had to go in to each contact sub-folder and check the checkbox for the ones I did want to appear in the Address Book.

    Thanks,
