    PDF to Word converter

This was mentioned some time ago, but even Alan hadn't found a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> one at the time.

Has anyone come across one since then? I have a one-off need to return a PDF to Word for modification. Just straightforward typed pages (actually Memorandum and Articles of Association, for anyone who knows UK company law!).

If nothing turns up, it will just have to be retyped from scratch (about 25 pages).

    Thanks

    John,

There is a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> trial converter. You should be able to do your conversion before expiration.

    Download it at PDF

    Hi John

    Not <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> but they have a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> trial download-Solid PDF .

Maybe you could test the software on your 25 pager during the trial period <img src=/S/innocent.gif border=0 alt=innocent width=20 height=20>

I have not downloaded this so I will leave it to your judgment.

    Re: PDF to Word converter

Thanks, folks -- both the trial versions have something about converting just three pages, although you can do this several times with Able2PDF. The results are much as you'd expect from scanned images subsequently OCRed, which is a bit disappointing since the original was a series of good-quality TIFFs converted to PDFs. Combining them all produced something which can be edited in Word, probably quicker (but not hugely so) than retyping the whole thing...

    Re: PDF to Word converter

    John,

I have successfully folowed the following way: get Ghostgum software, a shell around GhostScript. This lets you convert the pdf to tiff. Then use the Office built-in (at least in Office 2003) Document scanning utility. It should be good enough to get your text in Word.
Versions I used: Ghostgum: gsv47w32 (1.5 MB) http://www.ghostgum.com.au/, GhostScript: gs851w32 (10MB). The GhostGum site has a link to GhostScript.

    Re: PDF to Word converter

The last 3 versions of "Scansoft OmniPage" all have been able to OCR all "Unprotected" pdf files. They have all done a very good job, the latest version 15 does a real great job. It will also used most of the standard image formats that are out there.

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Check out PDF995 at http://www.pdf995.com. I believe they are free, and in their list of what their suite will do is:

"Output to doc format as well as html. The pdfEdit995 HTML Module allows users to convert PDF files to HTML files complete with images or Word DOC files without images. The pdfEdit995 HTML Module is available as a free download."

I have not used them, but have been meaning to try them. Let us know what you find out!

    Re: PDF to Word converter

    From the web site:
<hr>All three products are available as FREE downloads. The free versions display a sponsor page in your web browser each time you run the software. If you would prefer not to see sponsor pages, you may upgrade by obtaining individual keys for each product at any time for $9.95 each. A suite key sold for all three products is also available for $19.95. Purchasing also entitles you to email support by software engineers (12-hour response time).<hr>
So the free version pops up an ad when you use it.

Recent versions of the Adobe Reader allow you to "Save as Text". It makes a bit of a dog's breakfast of the formatting (every word wrap is a hard return) so it may or may not be better than typing it up again.

    Re: PDF to Word converter

How big is the PDF file?
If you can send it to me or post it somewhere it can be downloaded, I will give it try with OmniPage, if it is NOT a "Print protected" file.
