What Happened to the text size

Well, I know I've been away for awhile (unfortunately swamped at work), but I just tried comming back & can hardly read the text. In IE, even at the largest text, I can barely see it at 1024x768. In Netscape, if I enable style sheets, it's again too small. If I don't enable style sheets, there's no color & no tables or frames. Very difficult too read. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Hi Phil,

I see you are using the default stylesheet - 'Oldstyle'. Try changing to 'Oldstyle (big)' and see if that's comfortable for you. If not, let me know and I'll create a stlll bigger set.

Re: What Happened to the text size

    Hi Eileen:

Well, to be honest, it could be bigger. I have trouble seeing in both Netscape & in IE. I do notice that in Netscape, I have to use "enable style sheets" in order to see the colors and tables. My reply box (now 80 columns) is about 80% across the page in Netscape. It's only about 55% in IE.

    Maybe I've gotten to the point that I should switch to 800x600--or try some laser surgery <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>.

And is it my imagination, or are the icons for reply etc. in shades of grey now?

I think switching to 800x600 is going to be your best bet. Why suffer...

Netscape still goes its own merry way in deciding how to interpret width and height measurements. Do you HAVE to keep switching back and forth between NS and IE? If you settle on one or the other (preferably IE) you can set it to your taste and then forget about it.

Oops - forgot about the icons . Yes they are simplified so they can be seen with all skins.

Re: What Happened to the text size

    Hi,

I shared the same concern as Phil re font size when I first laid (bleary) eyes on the new software; however after a few days have gotten quite used to Oldstyle(Big).

It is worth mentioning though, that changing the View>Text Size setting in IE has no affect on the font size in either the messages or the message headings - didn't it used to?

Although I wouldn't need it personally, I think it would be fan-friendlier to offer a VeryBig option, at least in Oldstyle (which seems to be the most legible) - a much better option for enhanced legibility, than switching to 800x600 (ugh).

BTW, I just noticed the switch to the colors of the mods and wmvps etc. names - now only the flag is red - for my taste, seeing my name all in red used to make me cringe <g> - kind of like waving red at a bull! The new scheme is much more laid back.

Re: What Happened to the text size

Yes, I've settled on the (big) ones as my prefered size too.

We now use CSS - that's how it's possible to allow you all to choose different skins. It also means that everything stays the same no matter what size you choose in your browser.

It wouldn't hurt to offer a couple of (extra big) skins - I'll get to it...

I took the color off the Special Titles so that they would be legible in all stylesheets but I agree they do look better this way. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

But what happened to the moderator tags? I notice this morning that they're an ugly ocher color. It makes it hard to distinguish what they are because of the relatively low contrast between the letter and the background. I kind of liked the cheery red ones.

I thought it was just me that didn't like the colours.

How about something else...maybe a lime 'M', bold and outlined in black?

    I think we'll have to take up that question with Eileen and Drk. But think what a lime M might look like on some of the skins. <img src=/S/shocked.gif border=0 alt=shocked width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/nope.gif border=0 alt=nope width=15 height=15>

Re: What Happened to the text size

    Hi Eileen:
Thanks for the change. Oldstyle XL is better than having to switch to 800x600 (all my other apps are set for that resolution). I'm happy again. Of course, if you could make me see like I could when I was 20, that would be even better.[grin

By the way, I really can't just use one browser because I click on email links in Netscape & Netscape is faster on my system, but IE looks & acts better.

Hey, I couldn't even see when I was twenty! I have three different focal lengths: no glasses for very close work, 1 pair for arm's length and another pair for long distance. I'm happy with small sizes because I'm a miniaturist... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Aren't miniaturists the ones who collect those tiny European cars called Mini's? <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Hey, back in the early 60s we had an even smaller one called the Bubble Car which was like the cockpit removed from a small aroplane. You had to open the whole top like an egg to get in. Needless to say they didn't last long...

If you couldn't see when you were 20, then I went downhill faster (which is only OK if you're skiing) <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>. I have 4 pairs of glasses & 6 focal points:
    1 for distance & reading
1 for shooting pool/rock climbing (not at the same time) & reading
    1 for computer & reading
    1 for close up
& no glasses when I want the world to look as blurry as my thoughts. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> (And even glasses don't always help as I noticed I left off the second bracket after the grin in my previous post.)
