Display message on shut-down? (XP Pro)

When I go home each evening, I keep forgetting to shut the windows. Not the Microsoft Windows, but those cunning devices that allow one to see through walls. Anyway, what I'd like to do is display a message when I shut down my computer to remind me. I could set up a reminder in Outlook but I don't always leave at the same time of day, so that wouldn't be ideal.

I know that when Windows shuts down it tries to close everything and so the idea of opening something on shut-down is a bit weird; but is it possible to display a message, even if it's only for a few seconds?

If at first you do succeed, you've probably missed something.

You could create a script file to display your message (even a DOS command file) and then

    Start > Run > gpedit.msc
Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Scripts > Shutdown > Add

Both the inbuilt XP SHUTDOWN command (also found in the WIndows 2000 Resource Kits) command and the more comprehensive PsShutDown program from SysInternals will pop up a message box for however many seconds you wish. Do SHUTDOWN /? in a Command Prompt window to see the more restricted set of options.

All you have to remember when you want to shut down is to click on the shortcut/icon you set up earlier...!
