    Word 2002 Printing Problem (OS/XP - Word 2002 wiht SP3)

We have been experiencing a printing problem since upgrading from MS Office 97 to MS Office 2002. When someone sends a print job to a printer, the characters stack upon themselves and so you end up with, say, three paragraphs looking like three really black dots on the printout. This is intermittent and does not seem to be related to the brand of printer. However, once it starts for a particular user, then the problem seems to get worse and worse. We have been using an MS hotfix which was for duplicated text and it seemed to be working; however, the hotfix appears to no longer be fixing this print problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Could the font be corrupted? I suspect the printer uses some information from the font file to determine where to place the "next" character.

I suppose this is a possibility; however, this is an office with numerous and varied printers. This appears to happen randomly. Also, besides the hotfix, we discovered that if we go back into the print menu and choose a different printer, it will straighten out and print correctly. I forgot to mention that the document doesn't look right on screen when this happens. Thanks.

Do all of the views look bad (Normal, Print Layout, Print Preview, Web), or only some of them?

Are there any printing-related boxes ticked under Tools>Options..., Compatbility for problem documents?
