    Logon error message

Whenever I log onto the network, I get the following error message.

"Cannot find the file 'C:Program' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

I just click on OK and ignore the message as all my programs work and everything seems to be fine.

How do I get rid of the message as it is rather annoying?

    Re: Logon error message

This sounds like something in your startup that is failing becacuse either you have uninstalled it (but left something in your startup folder pointing to it) or a badly formed shortcut.

    Can you run
    msinfo32
from Start | Run and see if anything looks amiss in the Software Environment | Startup Programs? (It will most likely point to a registry key)
Basically, you are looking for a program listed there that does not start when you log on, so it should be easy to spot as it will not be listed under task manager.

Look for a line in Autoexec.bat that tries to execute a program from a subdirectory of C:Program Files and that does not have double quotes around the path and program name.

    Re: Logon error message

I tried to run "msinfo32" from the start run menu but I got an error message saying "Cannot find the file 'msinfo32'".

I am running NT4.0, SP6. Do I need to specify a path or anything else?

Apologies - I think msinfo32.exe is installed as an option with Office so you will not necessarily have it - a quick search from Start | Find for
    msinfo32.exe
will tell you if you have it on your system.

    Check for the following:

In the Start Menu & Windows files:
    C:WINNTPRofilesAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup
    C:WINNTPRofiles%currentuser%Start MenuProgramsStartup
The WIN.INI file; look for the "LOAD=" and "RUN=" lines. These are usually not there, but some older 16-bit apps will put them there.

    In the Registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionRun
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionRun
    HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionRun
