type the cross-ref num - goto that position (WordXP SP3)

    Hello

Someone mentioned that they heard that in the cross-reference dialog box you can type in a cross reference number and it takes you to that location in the document.

Is this correct? if this is true what are the steps?
We have version OfficeXP. is that feature in another version of Office?

    many thanks diana

I've never heard of the feature you mention and it doesn't work in my Word 2002 SP-3. I don't see how it could work, either.

You can use the Insert | Reference | Cross Reference dialog to create a cross reference to another location in the document. In Word 2002, the cross reference will be a hyperlink by default, so you can Ctrl+click on the cross reference to go to the location referred to. But this only works after you have inserted the cross reference and closed the dialog.

Perhaps they meant the Edit | Go To dialog. If you select Line in the Go To list box, then type 25 in the box to the right and press Enter, the insertion point will go to the 25th line in the document
