Errors requiring registry repair (windows XP SP2)

    Hello everyone,
I've been getting annoying error messages upon start up and shut down of my new and as yet fairly blank PC.
STARTUP: Generic Host Process for Win32 services (publ. Microsoft) is forced to close by windows. Sometimes this message repeats itself when I try to close it, and sometimes it doesn't even show up (!?!?!)
SHUTDOWN: waiting for explorer.exe and eabserver.exe to close (I use firefox and I don't know what eabserver is)
I tried to restore my system up to 10 days back but the messages are still there eventhough I don't remember them going back that far...is my memory failing or am i missing something?
I gather I need to fix the registry...can you confirm that and if so do I need one of those registry repair softwares??

Thank you so very much for any insight.

Are you sure about this file name?
All I can find on a Google search is "http://eabserver.osu.edu", there is NO hit for "eabserver.exe".

    Is this a "used" computer?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Errors requiring registry repair (windows XP S

You're right, I misspelled it. I just double checked in the Task Manager. The process name is EABSERVR.EXE (not eabservEr.exe) and It's user name is my computer's name. And the computer is new (its the HP lance armstrong edition).....
    Any clues??

Check some of the threads in this: "eabsrvr.exe" - Google Search. Eabsrvr.exe appears to be from HP.
