    Allow Starting in Reading layout (Microsoft Word 2003 SP1)

    I want to uncheck the option Allow Starting in Reading layout through registry. I know I can do it from the Tools options menu but I want to automate this. Any help appreciated.....

    As far as I can tell, this is stored in the binary format Settings value in the HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0WordData key. It's not easy to set this registry value directly. You could use code, for example in the AutoExec macro in Normal.dot or in a global template:

    Options.AllowReadingMode = False

    Hans,

    Thanks for the response. I tried with te DATA key, ut no joy. The second option unfortunately can't be done in my scenario.

    Modifying the Data key is not really workable. Perhaps a group policy can be used, but I can't help you with that.

    If you want to use Group Policy to manage word settings, then download the Office Resource Kit and then follow these instructions.
