    tweaking xp services (all)

Interesting article about how much good the tweaks at sites such as BlackViper actually do - AnandTech - Performance-oriented Windows tweaking. Short summary - not much, not worth the effort.

Thanks Joe. I see why you included the short summary. I did take the time to read the entire article and couldn't have come up with a better conclusion than you did.

Is there a quick way to reset all the tweaks to their default that you know of?

Great reference, Joe. I'm glad someone took the time to put numbers to the tweaks. I tend more towards just turning off what I don't use as opposed to looking for performance gains. Tweaking will always remain a cottage industry, though.

I don't imagine that this article was designed to gain entry into the BV fan club. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

I agree with you, Mark. I think it is a good idea to disable unused services. Some of Black Viper's notes mention potential security holes. Basically, if something is off it can't be used against you. On the downside, it is important to keep notes about what you switch off in case you find that something 'breaks'. I think Black Viper's site is interesting and informative.
