Do calculations on a form prohibit adding records? (Access 2003)

I added some controls to a form that contain calculations to aid the user in confirming information while entering data. Now the new record button is grayed out. I seem to recall reading something about this in a help window some time back, but have been unable to find the same help window.

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Calculated controls shouldn't affect whether new records can be added. That is determined by several other factors:
    - The record source of the form is updateable - if this is (the SQL for) a non-updateable query, you can't edit, add or delete records.
    - The setting of the Allow Additions property of the form - if it is No, you obviously won't be able to add records.
    - The setting of the Recordset Type property of the form - if it is Snapshot, you can't edit, add or delete records.
