View header when starting (Word 2003)

About a week ago, Word started no longer showing me my headers and footers when I create a document in Word. I have to manually go to view and select view headers and footers to see them. I find the view without the headers and footers very annoying. Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it. I have found that this does this on a variety of document templates, not just normal.dot

    Hi,

Which document view are you using? The only one that displays Headers and Footers is the 'Print Layout' view. Even then, if the Headers and Footers are both empty, Word won't display them.

    Cheers

I am using the print view. My footers always have at least a page number in them.

I have a template that has a lengthy confidentiality notice in the footer. When I created a new document from it this morning, I had to manually tell the program to show me the headers and footers.

See <post#=526,376>post 526,376</post: > for two ways to get rid of this:
    - Clear the "Show white space" check box in the View tab of Tools | Options...
    - Click just below the ruler.

Thanks for the tip. That solved my problem.
