    Restore Old Data (2002 SP3)

My Windows 98 machine that I use for an address book has died; however, the disk is fine. I moved the disk to my XP machine where I never use Outlook. It works fine as drive E; I can open all of the documents that I have needed so far. I searched on E for *.pst and found E:WINDOWSLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst, last modified on 10/13/2005, which is when the 98 computer died. I opened Outlook, did a File > Close all items, then a Fie > Open > Outlook Data File, navigated to E:WINDOWSLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst, and pressed Open. But, when I press Contacts on the Outlook bar, it says that there are no items to show, but the date/time on the pst has changed to the current date/time. There also was E:My Documentsbackup.pst; I get the same results with that. Is there a way to restore my Contacts? BTW, I believe that the 98 machine was also running Outlook 2002 (the files are in E:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10). TIA --Sam

Can you import (File | Import and Export | Import data from another file or program) the contacts from the .pst on the E: drive?

I had tried that, but I must have done something wrong, because it worked perfectly after your suggestion. Plus, the pst size went from 107MB to .5 MB! Thanks so much, Hans. --Sam

Hans did that through remote psychic manipulation.

That's initially what I was afraid of! <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25> But, a more probably explanation is Bill Gate's pechance of changing what a menu item does based on the contex. I do not like that!
