    Working with Word/RTF/PDF

I am working on a system where users can locate a record on a database and, if found, I want them to be able to fill out a form 'on-line' and have that form be stored in the db after completion. I know you can just hyperlink to a Word/RTF document and it'll load into the browser, but what I'd like to do is have the system open the document, give it a name based on some info in the db recordset and store it in the db. I already know some basics on how to store docs from the user's computer to the db and would like to kind of marshall the entire progress from the server side: have the form on the server as a template, and get the system to save the document to a row in a table.

This is for internal use only, so I can do things like implement some of yer more arcane features in the IE/Office/SQL Server triumvirate.

I think I can hack something out but would like to know if anyone has any interesting suggestions along these lines...

    TIA

It sounds like you're trying to re-invent a SharePoint document library.

    hmmm.... I *knew* they weren't paying me enough! <img src=/S/rofl.gif border=0 alt=rofl width=15 height=15>

no, i don't want collaboration, just storage. I've been thinking about document management a bit these days, tho.

anyway, I am thinking along the lines of just doing webforms and such like and not get into the whole intranet-doco hairball. for this project, doing webforms will work, as the 'target' word documents are very simple forms that people can cut/paste any existing reports into. but, if the Bosses want secure signed PDF files, I am (mostly) prepared to do that.

At this point, have a 'proof of concept' somewhat stitched together....
