MSQuery not working (2000sp3)

I've just setup a new machine (XP pro) and can't microsoft query to work. Eg in Excel I choose Data/Get External Data/New Database query. Excel then just hangs with a message in the message bar "waiting for data to be returned from Microsoft query".

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing office, without success. I have tried both 'installed on first use' and 'run from my machine' in the office setup options.

Have you checked using Alt+Tab whether there is a dialog window that fails to get the focus?

Have now. No dialog boxes. The Excel program bar has "(not responding)".

Sorry, I can't find anything relevant.

You might try to re-install the ODBC drivers to see if that helps. Most are included in Microsoft Jet, see How to obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine. Some others come with MDAC, see MDAC Downloads.

I don't know what I did (apart from re-booting a few times) but now it is working. I did change macro security from high down to medium - which might be related? Thanks for your interest.

Macro security has no bearing on MS Query, but I'm glad it works for you now.
