Excel Charting Fun (Excel 2000, Win2K Pro)

I am running an excel spreadsheet that monitors several types of activity on a web-based referral system. In looking at the graphs, I'd like to go a step further than simple bar and line charts to show the level of activity overall and by month, etc. In particular, I'd like to add a third line for a, I guess it's called, 'running average' which will show a smoother trend line -- sort of like what you see in some stock charts (i have also noticed something called a 'rolling average') -- and I am not sure exactly how to go about doing this.

One of the nice things about using Excel to access db data in an External Data linked range is, each day a new row is added, so i would like to be able to do this without explicitly setting an average for a growing range.

Any ideas? Basically, what I want is a smooth trend line across a large dataset, and if my terminology is confusing, well... not sure what to call what I am looking for!

    TIA

If you right-click a series line in your chart and choose Add Trendline, one of the options is for a moving average.
