    *&^%! margin issue (word 2k3)

Hey all. I have a weird issue. Somehow, dunno how, these "corner" marks showed up. They are aligned on a the corners of the page in page layout view, but do not show on the printout or the "normal" view. I edit in print layout. They do show up in the print preview.
I have looked all over, tried almost every option, I even read a few book sections. Imagine that, RTFM. But, alas! No such luck.
I use several computers, all with Office 2k3, and this is the only install that this happens with. So, it appears to not be imbedded in the view of the document, but specific to this install on this machine.

I am really hoping that someone can clue me in as to how to get rid of these things. They do not seem to have any affect, they just mark the corners of the page layout.
I have posted a small doc with a picture of these things.

    TIA, John

Select Tools | Options... and activate the View tab. If the 'Text boundaries' check box is ticked, you'll see these "crop marks". If the check box is clear, check it, click OK, then open the dialog again, clear the check box and click OK.
Post back if this does not help.

This can also be caused by enabling support for certain Asian languages. What languages have you configured Word to support?

    Hans,
Did not fix it. Enabling the text boundaries made a box appear on the screen.
    hmmm.
unticking the text boundaries made the box go away.

In that case, Stuart's suggestion is probably correct. See Margin marks or crop marks appear on each corner of the page when you open a document in Word for details and how to get rid of the crop marks.

    Stuart et al,
I just noticed that I have an 'Asian Typography' tab in my tools|options, and that THIS laptop does not have that.
So, you appear to be on top of this issue.
How do I get rid of this 'Asian Typography' stuff?
Apparently, my better half says that she tried German and Japanese at one point in time to try to translate some words.
There appears to be a connection between her action and this appearance of the corner marks.
I tried looking in the control panel, but the language for the machine is still "EN"... so there must be something (even more than usual) that I do not know about Office that will remove this?

    You guys are the greatest.

    Hans,
    That did it.
    I grovel at your feet.
Should you want to provide me with a mailing address off-list, my wife is offering a pan of brownies (she really felt kind of bad, these damn corner marks really bugged me, and my school work is done on that machine).

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it, but it's probably not a good idea to mail brownies from Oregon to The Netherlands... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Hans,
Why not? She has sent them just fine to 5 of 7 continents, and they always arrived just fine. Everytime I opened the box, there were the goodies in great shape. All you gotta do it slap the proper customs form on them and off they go just fine.
UPS helps, as does DHL or FedEx. USPS is a no-no.
