    Viewing Cell Properties (ALL)

Is there any way to view cell properties and formatting without writing a macro?
Yes I know that for some things you can look at the toolbars
BUT this does not give info on other things like validation, conditional formatting etc.

I have written a macro to do this that shows the results in a pop up custom form.
It is triggered from a right mouse click over the cell on a menu item added to the appropriate pop up menu.
I just thought having done it that there ought to be an easier way.
Of course if there is, I will hate myself (but not for long).

Most of them you can do manually using the toolbars (the same way you would set them). Validation and conditional formatting both have toobar commands.

Other than using the toolbars you would have to use a macro, either a sub or function to view them (or change them).

    Hi Andrew,

Would you mind posting the macro you've written to do this? It sounds very useful.

    Many thanks in advance

The macro is a bit of a work in progress at the moment.

To work fully, it needs 3 parts all of which need to reside in Personal.xls on the users PC

    1. The Macro that picks up the properties (the ones I have sussed out so far at least)
That's why it is a work in progress.

    2. A couple of lines of code in the Personal.xls open event to assign the macro to the standard range
    Shortcut toolbar

    3. A Custom user form that acts as a pop up with the information on it.

I would need to copy these into a spreadsheet (Not Personal.xls) then zip it up to get it as an attachment here
If you wanted to use it, you would then have to

Copy the Form and the macros into a copy of Personal.xls or another Macro Library file to use it.

Let me know if this is what you want and I will post it in.

    Thanks for your reply, Andrew.

Sorry about delay in responding - I am only just starting out with Excel macros and this procedure is more complicated than I expected. I haven't worked with personal.xls before so I will work my way through the tutorial post by Legare Coleman first and get back to you again if I think I've learned enough to be able to make use of your macro afterwards.

Once again, thanks for your response.

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Look in http://www.mrexcel.com/archive2/18800/21312.htm for an explanation about using Get.Cell macro function.

    Useful.

    Thanks.

I had not really though about delving that far back but you are right it exposes loads of information.
So you have to wonder why MS did not provide an updated version of this.
Maybe we should just all wait until Office 2006 comes out.
Everything will be perfect then and no more worries................
