missing excel tool bar (2003 possibly)

    Hello,
I have a friend who called me saying excel function bar was missing? Is this possible? Can he have hidden it? I tried right-clicking the the area above where it should be but didn't see an option for that part.
    any thoughts?
    thanks for your help

Are you talking about the toolbar or the menu bar. If it is the toolbar that is missing, then select Toolbars from the View menu, then on the flyout menu select Standard. If the menu bar is missing, that is a little more complicated,

    What exactly is missing?

If it's the "formula bar", you can restore that by clicking on Tools / Options and ticking the Formula Bar on the dialog.

    Hi
thanks to you both for getting back to me so quickly.

It is the bar just above the column cells. It has the first cell with the cell reference point, a little arrow pointing down, a blank space and then the fx and then the white textbox where you enter the formula.
    Thanks

That is the formula bar. Select Tools | Options, and activate the View tab. Make sure that the check box labeled "Formula bar" is ticked (as suggested by Ricky)

That is the formula bar. On the View menu select Formula Bar to get it back.
