Re: Neat trick for creating hyperlink (2002 SP-2)

I found that one by accident too. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> As an alternative to Alt+Tab, you can also click on the taskbar icons to switch focus, and get the same result. It really is a good method, minimizing the possibility of errors when transferring URL information.

Re: Neat trick for creating hyperlink (2002 SP-2)

and one other neat trick that these posts inspired me to try:

drag the icon in the Address bar from IE into Word and you'll have the link.

Only problem with this, compared to the other trick, is that the URL is used for both the "Text to Display" and "Address". You don't have to have the Insert Hyperlink dialog open for my trick to work but you'll see the URL in your text as opposed to some user-friendly "Text to Display". Of course, you can now edit the link and change the "Text to Display" to whatever you want - just like you could with the other trick.

Kind of six of one, half dozen of the other results??

And then there's always copy and paste.

Thanks for the tip -- it works great! But, darn, it won't work with Firefox 1.07!

    It works fine with Opera.

Wow, this trick gave me another IT Moment - I get 5 minutes at the beginning of all staff meetings to present some IT thing. This will be great!

    Thank you so much!

Only if they ask! I have to worry about job protection! Management does not ask - I do not tell. The individual users (I have 110) that do ask, Isend to the forum. Those that go and look are hooked just like I am!
    Thanks to all of you!

Great trick - I also discovered it by accident (but hadn't tested it on other Office apps) when I was using FrontPage 2003 for creating www.thomsontrading.com.au

Neat trick for creating hyperlink (Office 2K+/IE)

Here's a nifty technique I just stumbled on by accident. If you're creating a hyperlink (in a Word document) to a web page:

    1. Open an IE window to the web page (if there isn't one already).
    2. In Word, open the Insert Hyperlink dialog and choose Existing File or Web Page.
    3. Use Alt-Tab (or, as Microsoft calls it, the "coolswitch") to switch to the IE window with the appropriate web page.
    4. Use Alt-Tab to switch back to the Word document.
    5. Like magic, BOTH textboxes in the Insert Hyperlink dialog will already be filled in for you, with the title and address, respectively, of the web page.

UPDATE: Further research shows (1) that this trick works in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access (in Office 2000 or later), and (2) that the trick doesn't work in Firefox -- it's specific to Internet Explorer.
