    InsertSymbol macro (2002/SP2)

    Afternoon -
    In Word 97, this macro, from Word97 Annoyances, pg. 194, worked great. However, in Word 2002, it does not close the dialog box after hitting Insert.

    Sub InsertSymbol()
    Dialogs(wdDialogInsertSymbol).Show
    End Sub

    Any suggestions? Thanks

    Unfortunately, VBA sits around doing nothing until you manually close the dialog. If I recall correctly, there is no way to intercept the intermediate act of inserting one or more symbols so that you can close the dialog in code. Like a couple of other dialogs (the one to mark Table of Authorities entries comes to mind), I think you just have to live with it.

    Thank you for your answer. But, why does it work in Word 97 and not Word 2002?

    I think they changed the action of the Insert button from "insert and close" to "insert and stay open." However, I haven't used Word 97 for many years...
