    Name field segmented.

I am trying to break a name field into 3 sections. Presently it is in one datafield (last, first,MI) format. I am able to break into (last) (first,MI) format. MI can be missing, w/period, w/o period - this seems to be the problem. I am using Access 97

There is very little that you can do to get all the pieces exactly like you want them. It will take some very careful coding to look for specific situations. Examples: look for a trailing period then assume prior character is middle initial, or look for a space after first name and assume that it separates first and middle names. Of course, there will be exceptions that won't fit, but you will just have to live with that.
