    Re: Lounge search plugin

Excuse my total ignorance of FF plug-ins, but just how is one supposed to use it?

    Re: Lounge search plugin

    Thanks Dave

That is a useful search plug-in with the added bonus of being included on the Mycroft site.

A method of creating your own plug-ins to search the Lounge was first detailed in <!post=Customised Lounge Searches with Firefox / Mozilla,441901>Customised Lounge Searches with Firefox / Mozilla<!/post> but it is very useful having a ready made search plug-in

    Re: Lounge search plugin

From the link I posted, click on the first "Woody's Lounge" link. You'll get a prompt like the one below; click OK.

Now, look at the search box in the top right hand corner of your firefox window; click on the icon (it's usually the Google G by default). In the drop-down list that appears, you'll see "Woody's Lounge" as an option. Select it. Now enter some search criteria into the search box, and away you go!

    Hope this helps,

    Re: Lounge search plugin

    Morning Waggers,
Sorry, I meant to re-post here to say I had worked it out yesterday. What flummoxed me was that I had removed the Search box from the toolbar...

Could be very useful. I'll need to see how much I use it as I tend to do searches within certain forums, and middle-clicking the Search link above gives me the full options in a new tab.

BTW - is there a method to edit the list of Search Engines? - I don't really want eBay, I use Amazon.co.uk (not .com) and it's bookmarked anyway, I can't remember when I last used Yahoo!, I had never heard of CC until yesterday, dictionary.com is on my bookmarks toolbar, and Google is home!

    Re: Lounge search plugin

It's the kind of thing that should be in the standard menus etc. - but it isn't. You can install extensions that will do it for you, but here's the meat of it:
    1. <LI>Go to C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxsearchplugins
<LI>Each search engine has two files; a .src and an image (usually .gif or .png) file.
<LI>Delete the two files for the search engine you wish to remove (for example google.src and google.gif) and restart Firefox.

    Dave,

May I make a suggestion that you enlarge your pointer to your link? I missed it the first time and was puzzled about where your plug-in was located! After running my mouse over your post, I finally found it! It is quite tiny for tired eyes! Thanks much! I'm off to download!! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Lounge search plugin

I've written a search plugin for the lounge for Mozilla (Firefox & Netscape) users. You can download it from the Mozilla website.<IMG SRC=http://mycroft.mozdev.org/images/getplugbtn1.gif>.

I've tested it in Firefox but would appreciate any feedback from Netscape users who use the sidebar for searching. The plugin I've written searches all forums, but if there's sufficient demand I can write some alternatives that search each forum individually. Let me know!

    <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17>Ok, I admit it - this is a not very subtle attempt to land my first Star Post <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16> but I know that I for one will find the plugin useful!

    Re: Lounge search plugin

Thanks, Skitter - I've done that now. (I've also added a plugin for the Access forum).

    Re: Lounge search plugin

A small addition, with the release of Firefox 1.5 in a couple of weeks it will also be possible to store searchplugins in your own profile folder. This will enable each profile to have its own set of searchplugins rather than one set for all profiles.

With Firefox 1.5 search plugins stored in the searchplugins folder within your profile folder will only be available for that profile, and those in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox folder will be available for all profiles.
