Thanks Jezza for your reply. And thanks to you again Skitterbug for your help.
I will probably try a couple of other tests soon to 'push the envelope' and see how other screen captures display.

    Dave

It looks like Slim was using MSPaint and then saved it to gif format reducing the colour output as he did so

Seriously,I still think mine has a slightly better quality/focus to it but what do you expect when mine cost lots and lots of (company) money when you can still get a very good set of graphics with freeware

This is done entirely with freeware/programs that come with Windows. Quality seems pretty good to me. And it has been translated into Dutch too!

    Dutch? - hah!

Here is a completely international kind of screen grabber that also tends to come in your Windows.

    Re: Prilnt Screen snapshot

Jezza, you are correct in your assessment. As you noted there are limitations using this procedure. It is rather simple to do though and for some uses it will suffice. For example if someone just wants to show the settings used when trying to describe a problem the color detail of the switches may not be important. The size of the file using the .GIF format is smaller than some other formats and hence is probably more acceptable on this forum.
Thanks to the other respondents for showing the comparative features of the various options. There is no doubt that more detail and finer definition can be obtained and may be desirable for some applications.
    Best regards to all,
    Slim
