Using & in Text Field Format Property (Access XP >)

Hi,
I have experimented with the "&" in the format property of a text field, and cannot see what difference it makes to the field. Can anyone tell me what it is supposed to do? Even the help does not tell me clearly!
Tx
Regards,
Rudi

An @ in the Format property will display a character from the field, or a space if there is no character. An & will display a character, or nothing if there is no character. Example: let's take the values 1, 12, 123 and 1234.

1) Format @@-@@. The values will be displayed as

- 1
-12
1-23
12-34

2) Format &&-&&. The values will be displayed as

-1
-12
1-23
12-34

Note the absence of spaces in the latter set.
