    Numbers above/to the left of columns (Excel 2003 SP2)

    What are the numbers above and to the left of the columns in Excel? Attachment has a screen shot of them.

    That screen shot is a little hard to read, but it looks like the columns in that worksheet have been grouped. First, select all columns on the sheet. Select Group and Outline from the Data menu then select Ungroup from the flyout menu. In the dialog box select Columns and click OK. You may have to repeat the last step several times to completely get rid of those.

    If you need to retain the groups, but you do not want the group level numbers eating into the spreadsheet space, you can use CTRL+8 - (The 8 above the apha chars, not in the numeric keypad) to toggle the group symbols ON/OFF!
