issue with naming cells and using there ref (excel 2000)

    Hi
I am naming a list of cells, this works fine
but when i want to reference them on a another worksheet, and I go to the work sheet with the named cells and click on them the formula I am building is equal to the cell ref istead of the name?

Is there a option not turn on??

    example
    I name a1 on sheet1 Bob
on sheet 2 i type the formula = and move to sheet one and click A1 I get 'sheet1!A1 instead of the name bob
    ??
    Thanks

I am not quite sure what you are doing!!!

I have Excel 2K2 on Win XP pro.

I have put the value 123 in sheet1 cell 1 and named it Bob. I have gone to sheet2 and typed a number of cells =Bob and they all come back as 123.

Have you got a version of the workbook we can see, it sounds quite strange <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

It seems to work correctly for me on XL2K. Are you sure that you are getting the name defined properly. If you select Insert/Name/Define, is the name shown in the list, and does it reference the cell(s) it should?

also to add to the problem i am using a combo box which fills in the cell,
which changes the number value to a text string so when i do a vlookup off of it i must have the 1,2,3 in the vlookup table "1","2","3" ...
