    Error receiving emails (2003 SP1)

Every morning I log onto my computer I go into Outlook and it goes into error when receiving emails. It seems to clear itself when I go into PC Cillin and look at a few of the settings, but it does not seem to be consistent. The error reported is:

Task 'PTs Mail Server - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210E) : 'Your mailbox is temporarily unavailable because another e-mail message is being delivered to it or another mail application is accessing it. The server responded: -ERR [SYS/PERM] mailbox locked by a POP3 session'

Can anybody shed some light, this is becoming very frustrating.

It seems to right itself after about an hour.

However I would like to know what is causing the error.

Have you tried deleting and recreating your mail account? (Make sure you have the info you need at hand)

I don't know PC Cillin, but I assume it has a setting to scan incoming and outgoing e-mail. Does the error disappear if you turn off scanning incoming e-mails?

If that doesn't work, you should contact your ISP to see if they know about the problem.

If you are using the mail scanning feature of PC-cillin, then your account settings in Outlook will point to your own machine (address = localhost or 127.0.0.1). PC-cillin will use the "specially formatted" username information to retrieve your mail. Try checking this first to make sure it matches what you want. Also, if you have duplicate account entries, one that checks through PC-cillin and one that goes directly to the server, you might get that error due to the simultaneous accesses.

Where do I check my account settings in Outlook?

Also, I don't have duplicate account entries or at least I don't think I do.

This morning it fired up straight away, so I'm stuffed if I know what the problem is. I will just keep my eye on it and see what happens.

    To check your account settings:
    - Select Tools | E-mail Accounts...
    - Click "View or change existing e-mail accounts..."
    - Click Next.
    - Select an account in the list.
    - Click Change...

I'll leave that for Jefferson or someone else to answer, I don't know PC-Cillin (or Slao).

Slao is the result of fingers and brain going in 2 directions at once.

Re: Error receiving emails (2003 SP1)

Check the "Incoming" (POP3) mail server name. If it looks like mail.myisp.net, then you are getting your mail directly from the server-based mailbox. If it looks like localhost or 127.0.0.1, then Outlook is connecting to a process on your own computer that is listening on the POP3 port (port 110) for e-mail requests.

Re: Error receiving emails (2003 SP1)

The "incoming" POP3 mail server name is "pop.iprimus.com.au".

Does this mean I am getting my mail from the server and that sometimes it is not sending it straight away?

Well, it seems that PC-cillin is not pre-processing your mail. I'm not sure why making changes in PC-cillin would be helpful. Can you take notes the next time on what you change, if anything. In particular, are you adjusting the firewall settings?

The error you listed wouldn't be related to outgoing mail at all.
