    Searching *in* attachments? (WinNT4, O97)

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Outlook function to find words/phrases in the contents of attachments? Someone I work with wants to search the contents of an email folder and include the contents of the attachments in the search?

    Many thanks

The built-in search does not provide for searching within attachments.
Recent versions of Exchange have an option to enable full-text search within attachments, but I don't think your setup will support this.
There are third-party tools for searching e-mails including attachments, a Google search will turn up lots of them, but I don't know if they will work with Outlook 97 - it's getting a bit long in the tooth.

Thanks, Hans - I sort of thought that would be the answer.

If the user was using WinXP and Outlook 2003, would the answer be different? We're mid change-over at the moment and I've a feeling this person is using both environments!

Stand-alone Outlook 2003 doesn't have native support for searching attachments either, as far as I know, but if the user is connected to Exchange Server 2000 or later, the Exchange administrator can turn on fill-text searching on the server. Otherwise, there are many tools that can search attachments - see for example Search Tools.
