    Access and Simply Accounting (any)

I was just wondering if any loungers had any experience with taking information between Access and Simply Accounting.
Anything would do, as there doesn't seem to be much out on the web.

Which version, and what is the extension of the Simply Accounting data files? I don't know anything about Simply Accounting, but I get the impression that some versions use an Access database format.

Well, if they aren't available in access DB format, is there an option to export as an excel file or .csv format?

Well, what I know about Simply you could put in a very small hat.
However - I do know that it exports to Excel and .csv files.
Ideally, I'd like Simply to pull info from an Access db and the Access db to pull from simply. Right now, there is a lot of double entry going on.

Which system will be the "primary"? The ideal situation would be to get rid of one of the two...I can't make any suggestions, since I don't know anything about Simply...

Re: Access and Simply Accounting (any)

Simply Accounting is a product now owned by Sage, which is a large player in portions of the global accounting market. The latest versions also are capable of sharing data with Microsoft Outlook, but it appears they are using some sort of proprietary database engine - very common for accounting packages. Unfortunately, most accounting vendors choose not to expose their object model so that data is readily accessible - with some justification, as accounting standards require that data be pretty well protected once it has been entered. So I'm afraid you are limited in what you can do from an Access database, and will need to use either Excel or .CSV files to move data back and forth.

Even with Excel and .CSV - its gotta be faster than reentering info by hand...

If it's like any of the other Sage products, the data entry interface is definitely productivity unfriendly. CSV is definitely a time saver, but make sure you keep plenty of backups! <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>
