I use categories a lot, particularly for automatic filing of messages. I have a good routine of allocating a category before I send a message, but occasionally I forget. Is there any way of having Outlook remind me to allocate a category before hitting the Send?

Unless you can find a third party add-in or control, no. And that's unfortunate.
You can, however, set up rules that will assign categories based on your criteria. It takes a little time but is well worth the effort.-Mark
