    Report sorting (Access 2000)

I have a report based on a query, and I need it sorted by three fields as follows.

    FamilyName, FirstName
    Job number

    Smith, Joe
    1000
    1002
    1004

    Smith, Tom
    1001
    1003
    1005

I have entered these three fields in the Sorting and Grouping box, with a Group Header for FamilyName, but the result is as follows.

    FamilyName, FirstName
    Job numbers

    Smith, Joe
    1000
    1002
    1004
    1001
    1003
    1005

How should I set the sorting and grouping to correct this?

You need to group on the expression [FamilyName] & [FirstName], not just on [FamilyName]

Thanks, that works fine. I had tried some similar expressions but had the syntax wrong.

Just in case you might have 2 people with the same name, you should include the PK (like the PersonID field, or whatever) of the Person in your sort sequence (I'm assuming/hoping you have such a field). So you would Sort by FamilyName, FirstName, ID. The ID field would have a header in which you would place controls to show the first and last names.
