    custom document properties

I had a great idea to use a custom document property to store a "keyword". The "keywords" builtin doc property is already being used for something else. This great idea will only work if I can do a search for the custom doc property. Word's File Search gives me the ability to search on Some properties, and I can't specify my custom document property.

Any ideas? Can I do this programmatically?

    Re: custom document properties

    Hi Karen,

You can manipulate custom document properties without opening the files, but I don't know about changing the Find File method. You should be able to write a macro that would search all files in a given directory (and its subdirectories) for a given custom document property value. I am saying should because I haven't done this. References to get you started:

    Hope these help. (Didn't say it would be easy!) <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Thanks Charles,
I'll have a look and see what success (if any) I have. I'll let you know.

I know it is possible to read the keywords in a program, since I have program which does it. You might want to check out the Microsoft article: q224351
