"IF" conditional question

I have a work sheet attached that I want to have the text data in one cell be copied to another cell based upon the data in a third cell.
In my work sheet, I have four names in a column: D3-"Allen"; D4-"Bob"; D5-"Charlie"; D6-"David". If an "x" is put in column "E" next to a name, then that name is to appear in cell D1.
For example, if there is an "x" in E4, then D1 should read "Bob". And since C1 reads "Job for", the work sheet will say "Job for Bob".
    How do write that formula?

    I am using Excel 2000 (9.0 3821 SR-1)

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Re: "IF" conditional question

This formula should do what you want:

=IF(ISNA(MATCH("x",E3:E6,0)),"",OFFSET(D2,MAT CH("x",E3:E6,0),0))
