    Language doesn't stick (Word 2000/2002/2003)

Subject edited by HansV to aid in future searches - "Word" was not very descriptive.

The document has been converted from WordPerfect and the following happens:

Text in a document has been tagged to skip spelling and grammar. I have selected all of the text and then gone to "Tools/Language/Set Language" and cleared the box "Do not check spelling and grammar" but someone it is not keeping the setting....because when I run the spell checker I keep getting "text marked with do not check spelling or grammar was skipped".

Any suggestions? Is there a "left over" code from Word Perfect that is not being cleared out?

Have you also tried selecting a language for the entire document?

Could you attach a small document demonstrating the problem? (Replace sensitive information with dummy text)

Yes I have tried changing the language for the entire document. Attached are two sample documents.

Neither document displays "text marked with do not check spelling or grammar was skipped" when I spell check it, so perhaps you took out too much?

I double checked them before I sent them and I still get the error after spelling of "text marked with do not check spelling or grammer was skipped". Could this be a setting within Word? It happens to me and I'm using Word 2003 SP2 and it also happens on Word 2000 (not sure which sp version).

I'm using Word 2002 SP-3. I'll try it on Word 2003 tomorrow. Perhaps other Loungers can test it in the meantime.

I ran a spell check in Word 2003 and it doesn't present the dialog to me either.

Perhaps you are right in thinking it is a Word setting or maybe you have a macro that runs when you ask for a spell check. Other than disabling all macros before running a spell check, I don't know where to look for the solution.

Thanks for the post Andrew...I don't currently have any macros running. I'm still thinking it is some setting within Word, I just need to find it!

Try this. I have copied and pasted the text into a new document. Open it now and see if you get the same error! I am using Office 2002.

Spell checking runs normally in Word 2003 for me too. You could try the steps in Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000),197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000)<!/post>.
