    send to back (2002 (SP3))

Is it possible to move a drawn object to behind a plotted line?
I am trying to do so, but it doesn't appear possible.
I _can_ move a drawn object to behind another drawn object...

The objects you add to a chart are always on top of the chart so can not go underneath anything on the chart.

You can "draw" the object using X,Y coordinates and take the range of these XY values and plot them on an XY chart and then this "XY line" can be put wherever you want it in the series order.

Would there be a way to add a fill pattern/texture/color to the resulting shape (assuming it was enclosed) ?

No to do that requires much more "complicated trickery":

Jon Peltier has some examples that could be adapted:

Apply Fill Color Between Lines in a Chart

Line and Fill Effects in Excel Charts Using VBA

    Chart with Colored Quadrant Background

Colored Vertical Band Across a Chart

If you elaborated or showed us more what you are after, perhaps we could provide a more specific example...
