    Security opiton (Word 2002)

    Under TOOLS, OPTIONS, SECURITY there is the opportunity to select Read-only recommended. Is there a way to make this a default setting? I have gone into the normal dot and applied it there, but when I open a new document and check the options it is not applied.

    The same applies in Excel.

    We would like this option to be the default in order to remind people accessing documents on shared drives that they should open it as read only unless they need to save changes.

    Thanks.

    You could put the following event procedure in the ThisDocument module of Normal.dot and of every other template you want to apply it to:

    Private Sub Document_New()
    ActiveDocument.ReadOnlyRecommended = True
    End Sub

    With Excel it's more complicated, you'd have to create an application-level event handler. I'm not sure this would be worthwhile.

    Thanks Hans. Works fine.
