Old addresses won't die (MS Outlook XP)

I have a number of contacts whose e-mail addresses I have updated by overtyping the old address with the new one. The display in the Contact is fine and when I send the contact on to another user the contact works fine there too. However, when I type the name into a new e-mail the auto completion offered is the old address only. Sometimes I get the new address offered as well, but always as the second or later option in the list.

Any ideas as to what is happening and more to the point how I might fix the problem?

Thanking you in advance for your support.

    Best regards,

    Glenn.

Highlight the old address with your cursor and press the delete button. It should not reappear. If there are too many imstances for that, then the more drastic step is to delete the *.NK2 (or *.NICK) file in the Documents and Settings[username]Application DataMicrosoftOutlook folder. HTH

There's a "nickname" file (hence the extension I mentioned as a last resort). It archives addresses that you use. Unfortunately, it is a one way archive which doesn't update for changes in your individual Contacts. Like second-guessing in any part of life, it has its drawbacks. HTH
