    Task Manager oddity (XP)

I have a correspondent who sporadically doesn't get the full set of tabs in Task Manager. This is NOT the 'Tiny Footprint' practical joke, as he does have the menus and both the Applications and Processes tabs, but no Performance, Networking or Users tabs. Any ideas as I'm stumped?

Double-click in the border area of the Task Manager. That should bring them back.

What are your colleague's user privileges? Is this behavior consistent?

It doesn't - as I stated this is not the Tiny Footprint thing

I've asked about the user status and will get back. But its XP Pro SP2 and the problem isn't consistent. I've just checked a Limited user on my PC and all the tabs are there. Also can't find anything relevant in gpedit.msc

According to TM help, the Users tab is only enabled if Fast User Switching is enabled, and FUS is available only if you are working on a computer that is a member of a workgroup or is a standalone computer. Fast User Switching is unavailable on computers that are members of a network domain.

Can you confirm this applies, and that your correspondent is not referring to different pc's?

Maybe try the "Repair" option in Line 113 at Kelly's Korner

OK he has Admin status, XP Pro and it only happens some of the time - the rest of the time he has all five tabs.
I'd say do a spyware-virus check, reinstall windows and delete all copies of normal.dot :-^ - that usually covers most things

Have you tried John's suggestion to try the "Repair" option on line 113 in Kelly's Korner ???

What on earth might normal.dot have to do with a task manager problem?

No it's not my PC and it's not consistent - I looked at this and all it seems to do is reinstate the Registry entry with no options. But I'd like to find out WHY this is happening to the guy.

Perhaps that's just what your friend's system needs. If the registry entry is corrupt, how would you know ??? Using this fix can't hurt and might help. If it's a concern, then create a system restore point or export the registry key first. That way you can always go back to the original key or setting if you're not happy with the results.
